Early Years

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) children at Brindishe learn through a continuous provision approach - both inside the classroom and in their outdoor areas. This means that different areas for learning, resources and activities are available for the children to use every day. Learning in this way encourages independent learning, exploration and curiosity, allowing children to practice skills and follow their interests, in a child-initiated, play-based environment.

Years 1 to 6

A typical school day at Brindishe is calm, purposeful and full of learning opportunities for all.

Children are welcomed into school each morning and begin their early morning work before focusing on English and Maths. Phonics is taught daily in Year 1 and Year 2 to build strong early reading skills and across the whole school we promote a love of reading through shared stories, whole-class reading lessons and reading for pleasure. Writing is carefully developed from Year 1 to Year 6 and we encourage children to write imaginative and purposeful pieces across a range of genres. Maths is taught using a mastery approach, helping children develop deep understanding, confidence and problem-solving skills.

Throughout the day, the children follow a broad and balanced curriculum that includes science, history, geography, art and design, music, computing, physical education and personal, social and health education. Learning is carefully sequenced and delivered in engaging ways to help children make meaningful connections across the different subjects. There are regular breaks during the school day which include playtime and lunchtime where the children have the opportunity to socialise with the friends and enhance their well-being. All our school adults provide strong support and have high expectations in line with our vision and values. We want to help every child to feel safe, valued and motivated to achieve.

Carefully planned visits, enrichment activities, workshops, life experiences are designed to enhance the learning and develop our children’s understanding of how they can contribute to their community and society.
